Javier Barcala is a Visual Diretor, Film Director and Creative Director working globally on branded entertainment, premium experiences, curated shows, 360° campaigns and installations for avant-garde and luxury brands, public and private art and cultural institutions, artists and mass media.
He cut his teeth in his early twenties, interviewing pop stars for MTV and glossy magazines, and soon after, went on to consult for avant-garde brands on visual productions at the intersection of music, fashion and art.
Among others, at 23, he became Creative Director of Fashion Against AIDS, a 6-year long campaign distributed globally in partnership with fashion giant H&M, featuring megastars the likes of Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Yoko Ono or Katy Perry, among more than 50 cultural icons. FAA broke through as an inter-generational global hit with vast media coverage and record-breaking sales, and spearheaded long partnerships with other global brands the likes of Marc Jacobs, Levi’s, Eastpak, Jean Paul Gaultier, Glastonbury and Coachella Festival, joining forces to promote safe sex amongst the youth via seasonal collections, image campaigns, music and fashion events. The project became the perfect vehicle to create social awareness, raising over $20M to education on HIV in partnership with UNAIDS, UNESCO and Doctors Without Borders, among others, and a benchmark for new global socially-conscious branded collaborations to follow.
His trajectory, working in premier studios the world over, alongside top-of-the-industry creatives and leading brands - granted with a Leonardo da Vinci Excellence Award for a Young Entrepreneur under 30 - propelled him to create next gen audiovisual content as a director too. He became a Fulbright Fellow and completed a MFA in Film Directing at the trailblazing Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (California).
Ever since he has produced, created, directed, consulted and curated branded and artistic content, 360 campaigns, shows, and total experiential installations for avant-garde brands, mass media, tech businesses, and public and private art spaces and museums.
As of 2026, he continues to receive commercial and artistic commissions worldwide as a creator and director, while he also develops and produces content and global experiences from SUPERSAUCE his creative-minded production studio.
